In a partnership between the major schools of journalism/communication in Mississippi, MSPA will offer three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated excellence in scholastic media during their high school careers.
These scholarships will go to one incoming freshman majoring in journalism, IMC, or communication at each of the following schools:
The University of Mississippi: Beth Fitts Scholarship ($1,000)
Mississippi State University: Turner Catledge Scholarship ($1,000)
University of Southern Mississippi: USM Comm Scholarship ($1,000)
Each scholarship will be awarded in two stipends: $500 during the fall semester and $500 in the spring semester, provided the recipient has completed the first semester’s work in good standing (with a minimum GPA of 3.0).
The short application includes basic information about the student’s involvement in journalism, along with a 350-word essay describing the student’s future goals in journalism and how their high school publication has prepared them.
