When it comes to daily broadcasts, very few high schools in Mississippi have been able to carry it out. One of the leaders in the state, Patriot Vision of Lewisburg High School, is setting a standard for working with news and media. An MSPA winner for Mississippi’s Best Daily Newscast, it specializes in social media and video content covering the school.
Allison Morris, second year advisor of Patriot Vision, explained how they are working through the process of growing their brand, one that focuses on the students.
“We are trying to find the best way to cover as many topics as possible while putting as much information into the ‘hands’ of our students and families,” Morris said. “Let’s be realistic, social media is where students are getting their news information.”
Morris gets her students brainstorming on how to make original content out of everyday factors, allowing them to grow their creative skill. Getting the students to brainstorm and work together are goals for successful work.
“I believe taking everyday announcements from a high school and turning them into commercials or social media content really makes my students think outside the box,” Morris said. “By thinking outside the box with topics, students can then relate that idea to future careers in media & content creation.”
Patriot Vision wouldn’t be where it is without its working students. They cover a vast amount of topics around the school to create their content.
“I have made hype videos for football, I made introductions for the episode, and I have made skits for upcoming events,” said Kara Walker, a first year Patriot Vision student.
Walker has been involved in many projects for Patriot Vision, and through those experiences shared how it taught her both what her interests are, and an important lesson she can carry forward.
“It made me realize how I liked to edit and make creative projects,” Walker said. “It has also made me more responsible, because I have to keep up with my own SD cards and make sure that my projects are done.”
Cade Sanders, a second year student in Patriot Vision, gets much enjoyment out of his experiences, covering some of the topics he is interested in the most.
“My favorite parts of working with Patriot Vision are being super involved with our sports teams,” Sanders said. “Recapping sports games and hyping up future sports games to put out to the school is something I really enjoy.”
Sanders also explained how the relationships between all the members is one of the most important factors in their success.
“Everyone in Patriot Vision is tight and we can all rely on each other to get the job done,” Sanders said. “We all have our strong points, and we can put them together when working on a project to make it as best as possible.”
Patriot Vision can be found across multiple media outlets, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, producing new and original daily content.
