MSPA would like to congratulate the staff of The Charger newspaper at Oxford High School in Oxford, Miss on placing third in a NATIONAL scholastic journalism competition in Boston last weekend.

The newspaper staff won a 3rd place Best of Show award in the 13-16 page category at the National Scholastic Press Association conference. Only the top 10 papers in each page division were selected for Best of Show awards.

Over 5,500 students from across the country attended the three-day Boston convention. Oxford High was the only Mississippi school to attend. The NSPA co-sponsored the event with the Journalism Education Association.

In addition to the awards ceremony, students had access to over 300 sessions involving scholastic journalism. They also attended keynote sessions by FRONTLINE deputy executive producer Raney Aronson-Rath and Juliette Kayyem, a former Boston Globe columnist now running for governor of Massachusetts.

Cynthia Ferguson is the adviser for The Charger and the current JoAnne Sellers Newspaper Adviser of the Year for the state of Mississippi.
