ASNE’s Youth Journalism Initiative aims to start, restart or reinvigorate high school media outlets with its partnership program by establishing a mentoring relationship between a local news organization and a high school.

ASNE provides $2,000 for the school to make approved purchases such as digital cameras, computers, software, hardware and other resources. The news organization provides guidance to the high school adviser and students. The result is that students learn 21st-century skills and the school community learns why news matters.

Interested advisers should contact a local news organization to obtain its commitment to mentor the high school media outlet.  The adviser should then request an application packet from Megan Schumacher at [email protected].

The application deadline is August 30, and notifications will be made by September 3.
